A. Egg

Egg
1. They are laid horizontally and singly on the water surface. They are laid vertically in cluster (or raft like structure) on the water surface.
2. About 40-100 eggs are laid in fresh and clean water. About 200-300 eggs are laid in dirty water.
3. The eggs are boat or barrel shaped. They are cigar shaped.
4. Each egg has 2 lateral air floats that help them float on the water surface. Lateral air floats are absent.
B. Larva Larva
1. They are surface feeder. They are bottom feeder.
2. During intake of air, head lies horizontally, parallel to the water surface. It hangs downward at an angle with the water surface.
C. Pupa Pupa
1. They are green in color with small cephalothorax. They are colorless with a big cephalothorax.
2. They have short respiratory trumpets. They have long respirator trumpets.
D. Adult Adult
1. It has a slender body with delicate legs. It has a well-built body with stout legs.
2. Its wings have dark spots and cannot fly for long distance. Its wings lack spots can fly for long distance.
3. At rest, the body is inclined at an acute angle to the surface. At rest, the body stands almost parallel to the surface.
4. They transmit malarial fever. They transmit filarial fever.
